Models, modeling & model-based applications are important enablers to face current and future challenges in product-process engineering

They improve understanding of the domain system; help to predict and optimize product-process behavior; reduce the number of resource-demanding experiments; deliver truly innovative solutions, if properly employed.

However, it is important to note that the role of modeling should not be to just replace experiments.
